Hi! I'm Courteney Daniels and I am junior at Texas State. I truly believe that the role of teaching is a calling. I feel like I have been teaching and exploring my whole life without realizing I could make a career out of it. From my earliest memories I remember being fascinated and having a great fondness for my teachers. If I had good teachers they made me better and inspired me and if I had bad ones I could really see the negative effects it had on my life. Teaching was not what I always wanted to but it always found me. I would constantly be put in situations where I was asked to lead or explain something to someone. By the time I was a senior in high school I realized that my love for children and my passion to be a light, encourage, and empower them was what I wanted to do with my life for the rest of my life.
When I decided that I wanted to teach I knew that I wanted to teach elementary school preferably kindergarten through second grade. At that age, children are more eager to learn and I will be teaching them subjects and principles that they will use for the rest of the their lives such as reading, writing, and basic math. I have a strong passion for English and Social Studies although I know that I will have to teach many subjects throughout each given day. I would like to work for a school that focuses on children's wellbeing and life skills rather than just being test results-based.

Social studies could become your gateway subject to teaching your students how to think, question, write, and care.

The teachers in our lives truly can have great impacts on us, and it seems like you will have the same impact on your future students!
